Safe Choice

Safe Choice is our cross-cultural Safe Behaviour program that unlocks risk-based decision-making, reflects on negative risk-inhibited biases and builds out leadership behaviours in a structured and sustainable way.

Made up of 3 core elements: Cultural Assessment, Decision-Making Assessments and Leadership & Coaching. This unique offering focuses on the Why? in safety performance as opposed to the How?

Core Elements within Safe Choice

Safe Choice at a Glance

  • Establishing Risk Tolerance and Risk Perception as viable components of Safety performance
  • Developing a cultural framework for understanding Risk Tolerance through surveys: Axis See Below
  • Development of Decision Making Style structure for all participants as well as group: StyleUs See below
  • Roll out metrics: PDI and IDV, yielding TRT’s, and a project framework for Decision Making
  • Implementation of Contextual Leadership Coaching and Training Program: P4 See below

Cultural Assessment

Ingenium has completed a series of studies with the world’s largest oil and gas companies, researching the subject of Risk Tolerance in the workforce across seventeen of the largest onshore oil and gas development projects. Following the studies, Ingenium has identified a new industry metric of Risk Tolerance; a measure representing the level of risk the collective workforce is likely to take on projects. More significantly the studies show there exists a clear correlation between Risk Tolerance and safety performance on the project.

Decision-Making Assessments

Decision-making, by definition, is the selection of a procedure to weigh alternatives and find a solution to a problem. Generally, people differ in their approach to making these decisions; this difference we term a particular Decision-Making Style. Through our StyleUs tool we map out a process to assess such styles and their impact on safety and leadership, and correlate this with cultural assessments for analysis and improvement.

Leadership & Coaching

Positively influencing risk and safely behavior requires a transformational, cross-cultural leadership style. Effectively communicating with the workforce to deliver ownership and responsibility for safety at multiple levels, from senior executive teams to site leaders to home office leaders.

However reducing high risk tolerant behaviors, requires understanding of the inter-relationships with people’s attitudes and behavior at every site. This places particular emphasis on our leaders being role models for best practice.
